Archaeological Survey At Mandu, December 2021

A week-long workshop was conducted at Mandu in Madhya Pradesh, from 8-14 December 2021. The archaeological survey project at Mandu is currently underway under the direction of Dr Anne Casile from the IRD (French National Research Institute for Sustainable Development) and Dr Supriya Varma, Centre for Historical Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University. Students undertook systematic archaeological survey techniques using a compass, GPS, tapes, and tablets loaded with satellite imagery. The survey continued work initiated in the previous season to identify archaeological remains, and to classify and document these systematically in relation to the natural environment. Students were also taught how to use a Differential Global Positioning System (DGPS) device to map structures. Eduard Fanthome, Graduate Student, Department of Anthropology, Stanford University conducted the DGPS training program.
