A week-long workshop on archaeological surveying was conducted at Mandu in Madhya Pradesh, from 7-15 March 2020. The archaeological survey project at Mandu is currently underway under the direction of Dr Anne Casile from the IRD (French National Research Institute for Sustainable Development) and Dr Supriya Varma, Centre for Historical Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University. Systematic archaeological survey techniques using compass, GPS, tapes and tablets loaded with satellite imagery were taught to undergraduate and graduate students of Jawaharlal Nehru University, Shiv Nadar University and Delhi University. The aim of the workshop/training programme was to expose students to archaeological remains, to teach them to recognise such remnants, and to classify and document these systematically in relation to the natural environment.
